What is your Vision for Impact Statement?
My vision for impact involves leveraging the community knowledge that I have gained over the past nine years of educating in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati to better understand educational pathways that lead to success for my students. There is NO one size fits all when it comes to success, and I want to better support my students on their journey to reaching their full potential.
You’re doing a lot of work that directly impacts students. Tell us about it! What do you love about the work you’re doing?
Currently, I am a K-2 Reading Specialist at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy in Cincinnati Public Schools. I LOVE IT!! I get to have a greater impact with students that I would not normally see outside of the classroom. I get to build the foundational skills of my babies, and I have the extreme privilege of watching them learn and grow. Not many people get that opportunity. I want my students to have the power of choice! They decide which path they would like to take, but I get to help educate them on the journey!
How has being a part of School Board School impacted your involvement in this work?
Honestly, School Board School has catapulted me into really digging deep, and truly understanding WHERE I wanted to be on my own personal journey, and HOW I wanted to be of assistance to my school community. It was right after I completed the School Board School learning program that I accepted the role of Reading Specialist within my building.
How have you used your School Board School training/learnings in your work?
I have learned that change happens through coalitions.
So much of the future work that I plan to support starts with a community of people. Relationships and connections are the bread and butter of forward movement, therefore bettering these types of relationships is crucial for me.
How have you tapped into the School Board School community, or how has our network supported you in your work?
It is always wonderful to connect with past, present, and even future School Board School members! I have enjoyed being able to connect with various members looking to create lasting change for the community.
What impact are you (and/or your team) having?
As a Reading Specialist, I am able to have a great impact with students within my school community. Deepening their knowledge of reading foundational skills further broadens their pathway of success.
